What is the church of Christ?

You see them in communities all across our nation.  There are many ideas about what the churches of Christ are all about, and most of them are inaccurate.  We want to give you a brief idea here about us and what we believe. 1. We are not a part of any denomination because denominationalism is condemned by the Bible (1 Cor. 1:10). 2. Our only creed is the word of God.  We believe that it is inspired by God (2 Tim. 3:16) and as such it is truth (Jno. 17:17) and as this is the case it is free from error.  We believe that we are to use it to make all of our decisions in living this life and being Godly (2 Pet. 1:3).  We believe that since God must be worshipped in truth (Jno. 4:24) that we must worship in accordance with the word. (1) We sing without the use of a mechanical instrument because we find no authority for it in the New Testament (Eph. 5:;19; Col. 3:17). (2) We partake of the Lord’s Supper on the first day of every week as the early Christians at Troas did (Acts 20:7). (3) We give of our means from a cheerful and willing heart (1 Cor. 16:1,2; 2 Cor. 9:7). (4) We pray as the early christians did (Acts 2:42; 1 Thess. 5:17). (5) We study God’s word both in Bible classes and the worship assembly.  In the worship assembly the preacher brings a lesson from God’s word (2 Tim. 2:15; Acts 20:7). 3. Each congregation of the Lord’s church is autonomous from another one.  Each one is to have its own Eldership (Tit. 1:5).  In the absence of elders the men of the congregation make the decisions for the congregation (Acts 6:1-8). (1) Unless our preachers are qualified and have been selected as Elders they have no more authority in the church as any other member has. (2) The Bible teaches that “pastors” are the same things as “elders” (Eph. 4:11).  Here we see that evangelists (preachers) are diffeerent from pastors (elders).  Therefore we do not call our preachers “pastor” unless he is qualified and has been selected as an “elder.” (3) The qualifications of elders are found in two places:  1 Tim. 3:1-7, and Tit. 1:6-9.  Elders are the only people in the church that has authority (Heb. 13:17) and their authority begins and ends with the scriptures.  They have authority only in the realm of expediency and to uphold what the scripture says. (4) We also have deacons in the churches of Christ.  These men are servants who help out with the benevolent works of the church and whatever else the elders decide for them to do.  Their qualifications are found in 1 Tim. 3:8-11,13.  Deacons are not “junior elders,” nor are they “elders in training.”  There is no ladder of officers in the church that one can climb and become one in greater authority.  Deacons have no more authority than any other member of the church has.  One does not have to become a deacon before becoming an elder. 4. We have no earthly headquarters as our headquarters is in heaven (Heb. 12:23).

What we belive about Salvation?

We believe that one must hear God’s word (Jno. 5:25).  We believe that one must believe that Jesus Christ is the Son of God (Jno. 8:24).  We believe that one must repent of his/her sins (Acts 2:38).  We believe that we must confess our faith that Jesus is the Son of God (Acts 8:37).  Finally we believe that one must be baptized into Christ for the remission of our sins (Acts 2:38; 22:16).  When this happens you don’t have to join anything or be voted in.  You will automatically be added to the church, by the Lord (Acts 2:47).  We then believe that we must rise to walk a new life (Rom. 6:1-5).  We believe that we must walk in the light (1 Jno. 1:7).  We believe that when we sin we must repent of that sin (Acts 8:22) and confess it (1 Jno. 1:9) We hope that this explains something about who we are and what we believe.  We invite you to join us for services and learn from God’s word.  We will be more than happy to assist anyone who would like to have more information about us.

We believe that our mission is simply “The Salvation of Man through Jesus Christ our Lord.”  Solomon said:  “He that winneth souls is wise” (Prov. 11:30).  Let us be of service to you and we will do our best to assist you.
